YOU NEED:

  • 30 x 10 cm (size S) or 50 x 10 cm (size L) fabric remnants, e.g. made of cotton or jersey – but any other fabric that is not too thick also works
  • 15 cm (size S) or 25 cm (size L) elastic band , max. 15 mm wide
  • color-matching sewing thread
  • Safety pin or turning aid
  • sewing machine

CROP:

For a small scrunchie, cut a rectangle with the dimensions 30 x 10 cm, for a large 50 x 10 cm.

The dimensions include 1 cm seam allowance.

THAT’S HOW IT WORKS:

Place the fabric rectangle on the right and sew it together with a 1 cm seam allowance to form a tube. Start and end with the seam 3 cm before the beginning or end of the fabric.

Attach a safety pin to one end and use it to turn the hose to the right.

Lay the turned hose in front of you so that the seam is in the middle.

Now insert the seam into the inside of the hose and cut off the rubber band 15 or 25 cm. Attach a safety pin to one end and thread the rubber band through the opening in the hose.

Now you have two options to connect the rubber band. For both, pull the tape out of the hose at both ends as far as it will go.

Possibility 1: sewing

To do this, put the ends of the rubber band on top of each other and sew them together with an elastic stitch.

In both cases you put the rubber band inside the tube.

Fold the seam allowances of the opening inwards and close them either with a close-edged seam or by hand with the mattress stitch.

Spread the fabric of the scrunchie so that the side seam is on the inside and is therefore not visible.

Your scrunchie is ready!
